Presentations & Visualizations
This set of visuals uses ACLED data from Mozambique to consider the spatial distribution and types of security concerns prior to, during and immediately following the 2019 general election. Prior to deploying election monitoring teams to election observation sites, it is crucial tomake assessments of which locations may pose security issues for these teams. Part of this process is relying on publicly available information about recent security concerns. In addition to pre-election assessments, these public data also allow for the tracking of security and violence trends around the election date.
The visualizations presented here were prepared by Peter Carroll. For more information about the 2019 election, please see “Mozambique Elections 2019: Pernicious Polarization, Democratic Decline, and Rising Authoritarianism.”
